to manage some sort of workout. I have an ellipitcal,, low impact but has anyone used a "total gym" not a high end one. My dr has pretty much left it in my court as I am years past my injury.

I found that exercise is very important when you have a back injury or back pain. I tried to walk around the pond near my house and back up my street up a steep hill to my house, which is approximately 1 mile. I also joined a local gym which has also helped a lot. I put up a new page at HURT911® showing some of the gym equipment that I use for my back. My favorite is the Cybex torso rotation machine.

I find that if I do not go for a walk for a couple of days or do not use the Cybex torso rotation machine for several days, my back starts to bother me again. You can see the Cybex torso rotation machine and the other equipment I use at http://www.hurt911.org/therapeutic/gym_equipment.html

You have to be very careful with a spinal injury as they can be very susceptible to flaring up again, even if it looks like they have subsided completely. Take your exercise slowly and build up gradually instead of rushing straight back into things.
